External hard drive? No! External graphics cards!

this has been attempted before… but if you could have an ‘external’ graphics card to do rendering for games or whatever.

we’d have to use some sort of other connection than usb or firewire probably. this would be such a badass project.

Paint that Shit!

holy SHIT what a good idea!

you could set up some scaffolding next to a wall and a bot that moves between them. load up the bot with paint, and give it an image to do, and BAM it paints that shit on the wall.

HOW FUCKING SWEET would that be?

Random Number Generator… WITH LAVA

a lava lamp is damn near perfectly random, so why not use that to make a damn near perfectly random number generator.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFtce8bYJO8
have a camera pointed at the lava-lamp that is on and lavalizing, and then when a random number is needed, it could just snap a picture of the lava, and generate a random number based on the position of the lava.

now, to closely consecutive pings for numbers might not be 100% random, but there are things we could do to make it work really well. it’d be a cool web program too!

Artistic Animals

a sweet system could be to use strange inputs (such as animals, like cats or whales) to create art.

This guy did it with flies: http://www.dwbowen.com/fliesmovie.html

this other guy did something similar:
http://blubee.com/theblog/?cat=24

the inspiration for this came from elephants that could paint by holding a paintbrush with their nose, but how would a whale hold a paintbrush?

definitely a very creative, special idea.

Open Source mp3 Player

obvi… just make an open source mp3 player along with really simple software to drag and drop songs onto the player.

first implementation would be like the shuffle. second would add a screen and equalizer. from there we make it more presentable (solid case/design). make it well with complete open source software and we’d corner that niche market of the “do it yourself but don’t have time to map out circuitry and shit”

Hot-swap USB

know how you can have resume-able downloads?

why not make a USB hub or something like that that allows for hot-swapping or whatever so you could yank it whenever without fear of corrupting the drive?

Visual Network Storage

Lets say you’ve got a file you want to share with people on your network.

We could make an embedded system that was connected to a storage device and a monitor, so you could basically drag and drop the file you want onto the monitor (imagine a big lcd screen or something) and then everyone would be able to see this file on this ‘desktop’.

it would almost be like having a dedicated file dump computer, but we could embed it into just the monitor with the storage. what would set this apart is that you could place the file where you would want on the ‘desktop’ using some sort of gui from your computer.

just imagine putting a file on some computer desktop through a network/remotely.
